Short, Snappy Bio
Allison Pottern has happily made books her life’s work. She spent four years marketing and publicizing academic titles at The MIT Press before she went to work for Wellesley Books as a children’s bookseller and event coordinator. She is now living her dream: putting her B.A. in Creative Writing to good use as a novelist and as a writing/marketing coach for authors. Allison is also a 2023 graduate of the Viable Paradise Workshop and was recently published in Trollbreath and New Year, New You: A Speculative Anthology of Reinvention. Allison Pottern is a writer for adults and teens, with nearly fifteen years of experience in writing, publishing, and marketing. She spent four years promoting academic titles at The MIT Press before she went to work for Wellesley Books as a children's bookseller and event coordinator. She has a B.A. in Creative Writing from Carnegie Mellon University and is a graduate of the 2023 Viable Paradise workshop. She is also a co-publisher and contributor to New Year, New You: A Speculative Anthology of Reinvention. She currently gives seminars at Grub Street Inc. in Boston and The Metrowest Writer's Guild in Massachusetts on writing and marketing topics. She also coaches authors in marketing strategy and manuscript consults. She is currently working on her second novel.

Allison Pottern is a writer for adults and teens, with nearly fifteen years of experience in writing, publishing, and marketing. She spent four years promoting academic titles at The MIT Press before she went to work for Wellesley Books as a children's bookseller and event coordinator. During her tenure there, she organized, hosted, and promoted over 150 events, with veteran authors, celebrities, and debut authors alike. She has a B.A. in Creative Writing from Carnegie Mellon University where she received numerous writing awards and interned at The Carnegie Mellon University Press.
Allison is a graduate of the 2023 Viable Paradise workshop and is also co-host of the Speculative Fiction Variety Hour discussion group through The Writer's Loft in Hudson, MA. In 2024, she contributed to and co-published New Year, New You: A Speculative Anthology of Reinvention, which funded on Kickstarter in less than 12 hours. Her writing can also be found at Stone Soup, The Rumpus, The Oakland Review, Trollbreath, and GrubWrites, as well as in her bi-monthly newsletter, Books, Marketing, & More.
